Between the years of 1975 and 1987 I participated in numerous Sports Car Racing events all over the west coast. I began autocrossing at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1975 and continued to autocross all over California for the next couple of years. In 1978 I joined the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and began the process to earn my Racing License. I attended the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving and then went through a racing school at Riverside International Raceway put on by the SCCA to earn my racing license. I obtained sponsorship for my Datsun 510 race car from Sierra Datsun in San Luis Obispo and began to run SCCA Regional Races at Riverside International Raceway, Laguna Seca Raceway and Sears Point International Raceway. I built a new race car in 1981, another Datsun 510, to become more competitive. I attended the British School of Motor Racing to advance my driving skills and continued running SCCA Regional Races and National races, eventually winning several races and being on the podium numerous times. I also won the Pacific Coast SCCA Championship in 1982. I decided to advance my career and move into a more competitive racing series. I modified my Datsun 510 and ran several IMSA Champion Spark Plug Races that were televised on ESPN. My car was no longer competitive because front wheel drive cars were coming into the market and more competitve in the racing field and I was now having to race against professional race car teams many who were factory sponsored. I decided to retire from racing and focus more on the growth of my business.
